Meghan Tutolo, Pittsburgh artist and writer, founder of 1flychicken creations

I never know what to put on my business cards.

Is it normal to dread the small blank space after the word “Occupation” on forms? It’s because I want to do ALL THE THINGS, and somehow, I find ways to smoosh it all in. You might call me: writer, designer, painter, (horrible) ukulele player, poet, maker, graphic designer, crazy cat lady, coffee addict, social media maven, creative consultant, professional doodler… you get the idea.

Born and raised in the Pittsburgh area, my main gig is romancing olives and pasta as copywriter and editor for an Italian foods company. I teach English Composition as a part-time instructor at a local college and unfortunately rely on my students to keep me hip to pop culture and trends (and to make me feel ancient). Above all, I am a curious and prolific creator who is inspired by so many things. Because of this, I continue to experiment with different media, styles and subjects—from carvings to watercolor to Gelly Roll Glitter Gel Pens.

My poems have appeared in Nerve Cowboy, Rattle, Chiron Review, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Arsenic Lobster, Main Street Rag, Weave, Pear Noir… and paper placemats and old receipts all over Western PA and beyond. My first chapbook, Little As Living, was published in September 2014. xo
